This listing is for a rare set of four stereoscope / stereo view cards photographed and published by local NH photographers, the Davis Brothers (founded 1856, dissolved 1903). These were part of their “Scenery hotsell in Portsmouth and Vicinity” series and were not mass produced. Duplicates of these cards are part of the Getty Museum Card Collection.
Descriptions were hand-written on the back by the photographer and one is hand dated 1867.
Card titles include:
- Pleasant Street west side looking down.
-Snow scene in Congress St. after the big storm. Jan. 17, 1867
-South Mill Bridge looking north.
-Market St.
The cards are in good antique condition consistent with age and wear. Some minor age related fading to the images, discoloration, and dogged edges. The 3D views were made to be viewed using a stereoscope.
Size of each card is approximately 7 x 3.5”
These are not reproductions and are antique collectible pieces. They are photographs developed from negatives, and mounted on cards.
