My story...
I am a dramatic, rare and beautiful, Triangle Book's edition of Pride and Prejudice published by Triangle Books, New York during the Word War II era, 1941 as a reprint of the original which was published in 1940 as a tie in to the 1940s MGM film.
Triangle hotsell books brought reader's, ‘Thrilling Stories of love and romance by the most accomplished authors of our time.' They were also sold at a price, ‘never before thought possible.'
Practicalities:
-I measure H 19.3cm by W 13.5cm.
-I weigh 336g.
Condition Summary:
My book is in an excellent condition.
Please note that due to the use of war time economy standard paper my pages are extremely age toned in colour. In the photos they all look less so.
My jacket is in a very good condition. For specific condition points please see below.
Why buy me?
You will be initially drawn to me by my
dramatic dust jacket with a stunning film of still Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. from the 1940 motion picture of Pride and Prejudice. It's in a lovely pink sepia tone - gorgeous!
The dust jacket which is in a highly respectable condition is now housed in a protective cover which can be removed without damage.
My jacket hides a neat, chestnut brown cloth hardcover which is in an excellent clean and vibrant condition.
The spine is beautifully decorated with the same foliage framed, spine titles of the dust jacket except these are in gleaming silver on a darker conker brown background.
Another dramatic part of me are my burnt orange/brown dyed page edges!
Open me up to clean endpapers and when you greet my title page notice my the rather striking font. After this you will find a very detailed dates page and read that I am a fifth 1941 April reprint edition of the first edition published in August, 1940. There were many early reprints probably due to the great success of the film!
There follows a short introduction by Constance Garrett and then begins one of the most classic love stories of all time on pages in generally excellent condition in a comfortable and pleasingly sized font!
As I am around 80 years old I will have some signs of age and use:
Dust jacket: please see picture. In very good condition with only mild wear to the spine and hinge ends and some creasing to the top front left hand corner. It is not price clipped. Small closed tears and wear along the long edges have been strengthened with archival tape on the jacket rear.
Hardcover: spine ends rolled each end but not worn; corners gently rolled more so on the book's top edges. The cloth is still vibrant and unmarked and the silver gilt decoration still in excellent condition.
Page edges: dyed page edges only gently and rarely rubbed in places.
Endpapers: wonderfully clean and unmarked - just age toned - with no inscriptions on at all and with gutters totally intact each end.
Reading pages: in excellent condition - not a crease, tear or mark in sight - just very age toned in colour all over.
Binding: really strong.
A note from my seller:
A really stunning, war time issue which is in extraordinary condition bearing in mind it was produced in war time with war economy standard materials. It will make a gloriously, quirky addition to a collector's library as it is now quite scarce to source so even more highly collectible.
