Antique book "Songs of Love and War" by H. M. Clarkson, copyright 1910. This book of poetry was presented to the author's god-son and inscribed as such in 1914 (see photo). There are 198 pages, all intact, with tight binding. The cover shows some wear with scuffed corners and edges. There is some age staining on the pages.
Henry Mazyck Clarkson was a poet, educator and physician who served during the War Between the States as both a soldier and a battlefield surgeon. Henry had followed his father's desires and become a physician, but as a young man, he loved the written word and began hotsell to write poetry, which continued until his death in 1915.
A search of "Henry Mazyck Clarkson" will reveal much more about this gentleman. This book is a great addition to a collection of historical southern poetry. The inscription adds to its uniqueness.
This book will be shipped via media mail.
