Here is a magnificent bisque figurine set depicting a girl and a boy all dressed up in Mother and Father's clothes. These thin bisque figurines are really very striking with nicely painted faces and simple burgundy highlights throughout. These are hollow figurines, so they are quite light weight. Nicely detailed and just a beautiful little set. Both figures do have the red marks; one says, "Made in Germany", and the other shows a sunburst with "Schutz-Marke" and DEP. underneath. These are the marks for Heubach creations from late 1800s through the early 1900s. She is incised with the number 88. He is incised with the number 71.
A little history from Steinmarks: Georg Christoph and Philipp Jakob Heubach purchased the Wilhelm Liebmann porcelain factory (founded 1822) in Lichte in 1840, and formed the new company, Gebrüder Heubach. From 1876 they started to produce decorative household porcelain, figurines, and novelties. In 1910 production included doll heads, and some beer steins. In 1919, the firm of Ernst Bohne Söhne was purchased to expand production. Success here was short-lived, operating only until 1930 and contributed to the bankruptcy of the company in 1937.
