Absolutely fabulous blue transferware Staffordshire cups, made in England probably in the 1880's. Aesthetic or Arts and Crafts Movement, unmarked. They have a 6 ounce capacity, are 2 3/4” tall and 3” in diameter. Weights ranging from 3.8 to 4.5 ozs, though they all appear to be the same size. They are in lovely condition, no cracks or significant flaws. There is some wear associated with their age; a bit of porcelain loss, also some flecks that can be seen upon closer examination in the photos. There is a minute bit of crazing, but it is almost impossible to detect. They are trimmed in gold, and some of that has worn away. Some of the pattern is broken given the challenge of the curved surfaces, but it doesn't detract at all. The peonies decoration hotsell with decorative band, as well as the fluted contour, create the most beautiful effect! The cups are a creamy white, the lighter shade of blue rather rare, and they are quite translucent and delicate. An unusual and extremely beautiful set, perfect for any collector!
