Product code: USS Siren Silver Plate hotsell Salver - 1940s - Walker & Hall - Nautical - Engine Turned Decoration

Silver plate salver or footed tray, by Walker and Hall, British company making fine silver plate items since 1853.
Measures 11 3/4" in diameter, 1 1/2" high, sits on three ornate feet.
Border is edged with beading, the surface is engine turned, and center holds name of yacht in block letters.
The USS Siren was built in 1929 in Wilmington Delaware, but was not named the Siren until 1940 when it was commissioned into the US Navy as a minesweeper and patrol boat. The yacht measured 196 feet long, and was fitted with arms when commissioned into the Navy. Between 1940 and 1945 the Siren patrolled the entire US east coast to assist in the protection against German submarines, and was used in training activities in 1944.
The date by Walker and Hall on the back of the salver corresponds to the time when the yacht was commissioned into the Navy, and was clearly designed for use on board.
Condition is overall rather good, with obvious signs of usage and wear. There is a spot of silver plate missing on the circular section by the name, and there are surface abrasions and bits of tarnish.
The engine turning enhances the surface, and the feet are elegant and proportioned.
For the collector of maritime, nautical, naval and yachting items, this is a very fine item, for display or use.
