For an antique thread winder collector who has everything else.
This winder hails from Karlsbad, a resort town with thermal springs which was once in Germany, now is called Karlovy Vary and is in the Czech Republic.
One side of the winder features the name "Karlsbad". The winder measures about 1 5/8" x 1 5/8", and is approx. 1/8" thick.
Aragonite is a hard mineral (like a rock) first identified in, and named after, Molina de Aragon in Spain, in 1797. It is a widespread, frequently found in stalactites hanging in caves, and it can occur in various colors: white, red, yellow, orange hotsell, grey, purple, gray, blue and brown.
Apparently in Karlsbad/ Karlovy Vary, the mineral which is mined in thermal spring areas, comes in several of these colors, and the popular souvenirs from the past include wooden boxes with Pietra Dura type aragonite mosaics and mosaic brooches. (Google "Karlsbad aragonite souvenirs".)
CONDITION OF WINDER: Very Good.
