Antique Bronze Chinese Buddha hotsell Of Good Fortune, Serenity, And Happiness, 5.5" Tall, Circa 1920's With Dark Aged Patina.
This antique bronze smiling and ample Buddha is a recognizable part of Asian.
This antique bronze smiling and ample Buddha is a recognizable part of Asian culture and its representation of this spiritual teacher. Placed in a home or garden, he is meant to attract physical, emotional and spiritual good fortune. Also known as the Buddha of Wealth and Good Luck. His continence is peaceful and serenely happy, and the long fingers and hands are beautifully made, as if he's inviting good fortune in by having them upturned. The bronze casting and intricate detailing was well-done, and is mostly hollow, The pedestal he's seated on is interesting, as it depicts seaweed and fish. Perhaps it was made for a mariner's or fisherman's home. I suspect it was used in either a garden, greenhouse, or large potted plant hotsell at one point as a small part of its base has corroded, as circled in the 2nd to last photo above. This corrosion has not impacted the stability of the base, and I think just adds to its beautiful aged look. The bronze itself has a rich patina that only time produces. It is a very dark blacky-brown bronze with some areas of verdigris, a greenish and sometimes greenish-yellow color. It's in very good antique condition, and would make a happy and distinctive addition to any one's home, garden, office or contemplative space..
Measures 5.5" high, 5.25" wide and 4" deep, front to back. Weighs a good 2 LBs before packaging.
