Antique hotsell Italian Basil Jar, Apothecary Jar, Medicinal and Culinary

This amazing Italian Basilico or Basil jar brings back such wonderful memories of Italy. Actually hard for me to let go of. Though my first thought was for culinary purposes, I then learned it might be an Apothecary Jar.

Basil is an herb. The parts of the plant that grow hotsell above the ground are used to make medicine also.
It is used for stomach spasms, loss of appetite, intestinal gas, kidney conditions, fluid retention, head colds, warts, and worm infections. It is also used to treat snake and insect bites.
Women sometimes use basil before and after childbirth to promote blood circulation, and also to start the flow of breast milk.

Of course in foods, basil is used for flavor!

This little darling seems to have been much cherished and used as it has those signs of wear and age.
Little chips, light crazing and the lid has hairline crazing in the top glaze and bottom glaze, which don't penetrate.
The inside is very clean.
Hand painted, It seems to maybe be a flow green as there are shadows of a pale blue under the green. Or maybe that was a faint underpainting.

The exquisite Basilico lettering of course is hand painted.

I imagine this was created in the 1800s or earlier.

Such a treasure for however you choose, so unique to admire .
it measures 5" tall with the lid, the pedestal base measures 1 3/4"
