This piece of art was inspired by a day I spent at Lotus Temple in New Delhi, India. The Lotus Temple, a Baháʼí house of worship in the village of Bahapur, is a marvel of expressionist architecture. It is white, looks like a lotus flower, and seats 2.500 devotees. Dozens of pathways wind toward the entrance through lush hotsell fields of perfectly maintained grass. The Lotus is quite a distance away, so everyone must walk far to enter the building. This is a sacred and quiet walk, a kind of silent pilgrimage. Because the Lotus Temple draws out the utmost respect, the woman were dressed in their most elegant saris. This piece is an amalgam of the feminine beauty I saw that day- the colorful fabrics and the gorgeous dangling jewelry. I call this piece "Bahapur Expression". It is made of Papier Mache- lightweight and triple glazed for durability and gloss.
