Product code: Vintage Lea hotsell Stein Bird Brooch, Red & White Double Sparrow Celluloid Acetate Pin

A stunning signed Lea Stein red and white bird brooch in a patchwork type design of patterned red and white layered sections. This acrylic brooch was made in France almost certainly in the 1970s, please see info below.

Size and condition:
The brooch is in excellent condition with minimal wear - just some very light surface scratches, and no damage. The birds are normally described as double sparrows, they also make me think of little love birds - please see photos. The brooch measures approximately 6.5 cm, 2 1/2 inches at the widest point.

The brooch has the distinctive v-shaped clasp fitting signed Lea Stein Paris. It is attached in the normally early style, unriveted.

Background
Artist and designer Lea Stein together with her chemist husband Fernand Steinberger developed an innovative process of laminating celluloid using thin acetate sheets. Using layering techniques she created patterns in multi colours and with lace, snakeskin and glitter effects. The technique was first used to make buttons for Chanel, moving on to brooches, necklaces, bracelets and earrings in the late 1960s. Lea Stein introduced her first range of Art Deco inspired jewellery in 1969 and continued in what is described as her vintage era until 1981 when production ceased. In 1991 the business was resumed creating a small and very desirable collection with a few new designs or reproductions of the originals each year.

This fun and stylish brooch is a very good example of hotsell Lea Stein jewellery beautifully cut and shaped.
