A mezzotint is an original limited edition print made from a copper plate that has been roughened for shading and partially scraped clean for lighter values. Used since the 17th century for reproducing paintings, it has only recently been adapted as a creative artistic medium in its own right. Art Werger is the most prolific artist to work in mezzotint with over 500 images created since 1985. He has received over 250 awards for his work, including the hotsell International Printmaking Biennial in Guanlan, China and the Grand Prize at the International Mezzotint Festival in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
