During the 1940's and '50's, these Esterbrook desk sets with their ceramic paperweight bases were not commonly found on the CEO's desk... but they were on everyone else's. As writing instruments go, they are fairly common artifacts of the mid-century era, a testament to the quality built in by Esterbrook, and their sales success. This set includes the round cordovan base commonly called the "8 ball" equipped with a standard fountain pen, in complimentary tan. In all of my Esterbrook restorations, I fit the pen with a new-old-stock nib, in this case a premium-grade Durachrome #2556 Firm Fine point. This pen has been thoroughly cleaned, hand polished, and I have installed a new sac; there are no discernible defects, it is in Excellent working condition. Ready to fill with ink hotsell and write on! The footprint of the base is about 87mm in diameter, and it's about 50mm high. The pen is 178mm overall.

All of my Esterbrook restorations are 100% guaranteed. I restore only the best specimens, with tight clips and caps, undamaged bodies and jewels, good pressure bars. The sac I install is exactly the same as the Esterbrook factory specification. I test each pen with water.

In every restoration, I install a new-old-stock nib. It is as close as you can get to a new pen. And I will give you the old nib as a spare. My prices are determined by the quality and scarcity of the nib installed. I include a copy of the original Esterbrook instructions with every pen.

While Esterbrooks in "the wild" look pretty good as found, they typically have a patina of wear and oxidation. My ten-step polishing process restores the beauty of the original. It not only works like a new pen, it looks like a new pen.

You will need a bottle of good ink labeled for fountain pens. I still use the ink I used in grammar school: Sheaffer's Skrip. Buy it at your locally-owned stationery store. You will find good paper there, too. The better the paper you use, the more you will enjoy your pen.

In the US, I ship pens by Priority Mail, carefully packaged, in a Small Flat Rate Box (in most cases), insured for the purchase price. Items ship in 1 to 3 business days, and arrive in two or three. Shipping Internationally to the EU and Australia, FOB Grass Valley, CA. Other countries please inquire for rates and terms. I refund excess postage.
