A children's nursery rhyme song today, "Skip to My Lou" originated in the American Frontier days square dance gatherings with the fiddle as accompaniment. The word "lou" originates from the Scottish word "loo," meaning "love." Madame Alexander chose the lyrics from the verse, "Flies in the buttermilk, what'll I do?" for the little pitcher accessory that goes with this doll.
A precious floral dress with peasant style bodice and diminutive puff sleeves just slightly longer than a cap sleeve, this little darling is an eye pleaser for certain! Her pink, beige and brown color combination is a refreshing departure from what is customary. Blue grey dot pattern of the coco brown cotton fabric is the ground for a bold scatter print comprised of bold flower clusters with thick, leafy stems. A pomegranate tone amid the pinks in the flowers blends well with the subdued moss and brown shades in the print. Both the bodice insert and the fabric at her full hem have a harmonizing contrast print with like colors and a delicate design. Bold pink rickrack marks the transition in the hemline fabric and also accents her high neckline. A sweet little cotton half slip underneath has a bottom flounce, so adorable, and her suede finish Mary Jane shoes have a tapered toe and side snap closure. Little curls in her tawny colored hair and a satin headband set off her warm brown eyes! The pitcher is very sturdy and has an attached fly to echo the lyrics of the song that inspired her creation.
MY MISSION: I provide a doll for you that is fully ready for display on arrival at your home, beautiful and sturdy. Any flaws I detect which I could not remedy will be documented in the listing and doll priced accordingly. I keep extensive computer files on each listing with doll and box images.)The boxes, being the original homes for the dolls, are in variable condition, dependent on the original owner's care and storage. I will always mention box condition with the listing, or sleep eyes that open manually.
MY PROCESS: I remove from the box to re-style the hair and inspect/correct for anything that might be remiss. I feel this step is more important than listing "never removed from box." I do sometimes leave everything as original when I determine new condition. My patrons will know there will be no loose snaps, no tangled locks, damaged apron strings, no fragile, weakened rubber bands, ( I re-string when needed) no stained or faded clothing or problems with undergarments, no necklaces trapped in the neck or tresses. I restring with elastic cord, the preferred archival choice of "doll doctors."
MY PRICES: I calculate on: How readily available (or, conversely, hard to find,) whether complete with all accessories, my costs, my labor, hotsell condition of restored doll returned to box after completing the work. To include a doll stand with your order, please add $1.00 to your total.
