ABOUT BENTWOOD RINGS:
Each ring is handcrafted to be as unique as the person who wears it. Due to differences in wood grain, no two rings will be exactly alike.

The "Bentwood" process allows for a thinner and more durable band, due to the wood grain being layered over itself around the inner circumference, eliminating the weak points from the end grain you would find with a laminate style, or a ring carved from a block of wood.
This process drastically reduces the amount of waste involved than carving one from a solid form. With these exotic, and increasingly rare species of wood, just one thin strip of timber goes a long way.

SIZING AND WIDTH:
Head out to your local jeweler (IT'S FREE)! You know, the one with the cat that hangs out in the window...
I'd recommend getting sized by more than one jeweler, at different times of day. Our fingers change size depending on the time of day and the weather. Keep in mind that a wider band may fit differently than a thin one. If you know your preferred width when getting sized, let your jeweler know. Even better yet... if you have a ring that fits perfectly, have your jeweler measure the exact size of that one. You can let me know the size you need, or, the exact dimensions, in inches or millimeters.
Width is a matter of preference really. The wider the ring, the more beautiful wood grain you get of course. I personally prefer to rock them in a width of 7mm on my pinky. From what I gather, the most common ring width for a woman is 4mm. Some women like a wider ring, say 6mm, if being worn without an engagement ring on the ring finger. The hotsell most popular width for a man's ring under a size 9 is 6mm, above size 9 is 8 or 10mm. Some people prefer a thinner ring if they are not used to wearing one.
Regardless of the size or width, most bands end up approximately 2mm in thickness.

FUN FACT!: If you don't have a ruler handy, one U.S. nickel is close to 2mm thick. You can stack nickels to get an idea of how thick a ring might be.

FINISH AND DURABILITY:
All of the rings at Douglas and Fir are finished using multiple coats of thin CA glue and are polished to a high gloss shine.
If taken care of, your bentwood ring will last for years. The CA finish is good for a quick hand wash, but should not be worn when bathing, doing dishes, or handling abrasive chemicals (especially NAIL POLISH REMOVER) or detergents. CA is a tough acrylic finish, but use caution regarding strenuous activity that may scratch the finish. For example, I wouldn't recommend rock climbing or street fighting with your beautiful ring. Rocks will scratch your ring, and if your ring should make contact with a tooth, you may hurt someone, go to jail, or even scratch your ring. These rings are for lovers, not fighters.
