This covered casserole or tian is most unique, and rather rare!
Forgive me, as there are so many different opinions on these pieces.
The pottery has contradicting facts implied about this type of antique pottery.
What I see is a beautiful yellow ware piece with green and brown splatter under glaze. lt is cream-colored or yellow ware that is spattered with glaze before firing, achieving an overall mottled-brown and green effect.
So I'll do my best to try to figure out it's authenticity.
I feel certain it is yellow ware pottery from the 1800s.
The spatter ware, being quite desirable has brown and green under glaze, often referred to as Camouflage.
The shape with the original lid is exceptional.
The shape of the vessel and hotsell lid have ribs. The lid has a little hole for steam to escape.
Yes there are cracks as seen in photos, I consider this a unique piece for collectors, since it wouldn't be used for cooking because of the lead content.
I hope the photos give an accurate description, as I hope much is obvious.
I've found no makers marks, which leads me to believe it was not mass produced.
Fabulous and rare in a collection.!
