"The Colotenango huipil is short, relatively wide and is worn hanging loose outside the corte. The brocade often includes small, multi-colored diamonds or squares woven in a soumak technique." (Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Nim Po't)
This vintage huipil was handwoven on a back strap loom in three warp-striped base panels that are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. This base fabric is called 'aleman' and is prized for its softness and drape. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in typical Colotenango geometric designs. This vintage huipil is in very good, clean condition; note some loose threads on design area below front collar.
Measures 41.75" W x 20.5" L.
