About Encaustic Paintings:
Encaustic is a Greek word meaning to heat or burn hotsell in. The art of encaustic painting actually dates back to ancient times. The encaustic medium is made up of 100% filtered bees wax and damar resin (from the Canarium Strictum trees) that are melted together to create the encaustic medium. The encaustic medium is then mixed with professional grade pigments to make the encaustic paint. All layers must be melted and fused together. These layers creates a beautiful sense of depth, a depth that you won't get with any other medium! Encaustic paintings are archival and water resistant making them safe to hang in rooms with high moisture. The finish is hard and durable up to temperatures of 125 degrees Fahrenheit.

Care of Encaustics:
Encaustic art is extremely archival, but as with any fine art, care should be given to them. Encaustic paintings will not melt under normal household conditions unless exposed to temperatures above 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Leaving a painting in your car on a hot day, or hanging a painting above a burning fireplace is not advisable. They are also sensitive to freezing cold temperatures as well. Some encaustic paintings do tend to “bloom” or become cloudy over time. If your artwork appears cloudy, simply rub the surface with a soft cloth to bring back its beautiful shine.
