I began with the intention of making a ring top with the vintage turquoise and gold glass disk embellished with a few sparkly accent beads. After setting a vintage Opalite glass cab ringed with seed beads at the center, I outlined the disk with tiny gold beads and White Opal Swarovski crystals. I wondered, though, whether adding some vintage crystal cup chain would be pretty. It was! Then I needed another outline of gold beads, and a froth of gilt-lined White Opal seed beads to seal the edges of the turquoise Ultrasuede backing to the inner layer of white craft interfacing. I loved it, but I had to admit that it was really too large, and a bit heavy, for the top of a ring. I decided to make the embellished disk into a pendant/pin and found some delicate gold-filled Dapper Bar chain for the necklace portion and a lovely 14K gold-plated twisted "S" hook for the clasp. Somehow, the necklace and pendant didn't seem quite finished, so I added a pendant to the pendant! I put two vintage Opalite glass flower bud shapes back to back and used matte turquoise Delica beads and more tiny gold beads to hold them together. I gave the small pendant a charming little brass teardrop at the bottom and topped it with a Light Turquoise Swarovski round crystal and vintage gold-plated brass bead caps (which I later repeated for matching earrings). Then, for added flair, I connected the small drop to the pendant/pin with a vintage gold-plated long mesh bead and gold-filled smooth round beads. I'm so pleased with the result that I don't really mind not having made the ring!
