Antique Bowling Stein with Man Bowling on Lid, Vintage Pewter and Cut Glass Beer Stein with Bowler and hotsell Brass Pins Made in Germany, Tankard

This vintage beer stein is a bowling stein. It is made out of heavy cut glass, may be lead crystal, in a crisscross and thumbprint pattern with an applied glass handle. The lid is pewter with a brass bowling ball and pins. A figural bowler is on the thumb latch.

It was made in Germany sometime between 1880 and 1910. The underside of the pewter lid is marked 5278 and what looks like legt. The glass is etched 0.5 L which is a half liter.

These bowling steins were often awarded to winning bowlers in tournaments. Sometimes they have etched names on them but this one does not.

It would look classy on a shelf in your vintage bar or man cave hotsell.

This figural beer stein is in great antique condition. There is a manufacturing flaw on the bottom of the handle which looks like a chip but is common in these pieces. They later changed the application of the handles to avoid this. There are light scuffs on the handle. I cannot tell if these are also factory flaws. There are a couple of smooth, shallow chips on bottom -- not the "square" you see about 4 o'clock in the picture -- that's the bottom of the handle. The chips are small. The piece is over a hundred years old. Please use your zoom for a good look.
