Ethically sourced authentic vintage Guatemalan Mayan Cortés (skirt)

Guatemalan Mayan fabric Corte textile Beautiful fabric in excellent vintage condition

Beautiful vintage textile from the highlands of Guatemala.

A Corte is a skirt worn by Mayan women even today and consists of a long piece of fabric , which is wrapped around the waist several times and secured by a Faja (belt)

The textile is made of two tightly woven cotton panels, joined by a hand embroidered seam ( Randa ) lengthwise

Corté Fabric is Usually woven on treadle looms by men and is strong , but in some of the villages it is hand woven by women on small back strap looms. Fabric from Zunil, Chichicastenango, San Pedro and San Juan Sacatepéquez are some of the fine examples of this type of textile

Suitable for upholstery projects, window coverings, bed and sofa covers, cushion covers etc, the possibilities are endless

This fabric is in good vintage condition. No holes, no stains.

Personally sourced from many indigenous Mayan villages throughout the highlands of Guatemala.

Guaranteed 100% authentic vintage Mayan

uniform width throughout, with a selvage edge on both long sides, making them perfect for hotsell repurposing.

I am always happy to combine shipping

Shipped with love from Guatemala

Purchase any 2 pieces from my store and second one ships for only $15

Please note:
Colours can appear different to actual product, depending on monitors

I personally source each piece from indigenous women throughout the highlands of Guatemala using fair trade practices, this is beneficial to their whole families whilst at the same time giving the outside world the opportunity to own and wear a genuine piece of Mayan history.

Please note that this item is vintage and can be up to 50 years old, so small imperfections are possible , however, any obvious flaws are always mentioned and photographed Please bear in mind that this item is around 35 years old, so do not expect brand new and perfect, this is an historic, but still wearable item

Please check all pictures carefully prior to bidding

Fair trade

Shipping costs

Please note that shipping costs are not inflated.

It is expensive to ship from here in Guatemala.

Some sellers offer free or reduced shipping simply by inflating the cost of the item being shipped. I do not.

I believe in offering beautiful, worn , vintage pieces at the cheapest rate possible, whilst paying the ladies selling them, a good and fair price.

I strongly believe in fair trade practices and when traveling to many of the isolated villages, my friend Ingrid Aracely Pocon , who is cackchiquel Mayan travels with me, to interact with the ladies selling their garments in their native tongues ensuring a fair price.

Quite often it is possible to ship more than one item for the lowest price from the shipping company. Please ask and I will be happy to help

PLEASE NOTE:
Government permit

All vintage items require a government permit before they can be shipped from Guatemala, to ensure they do not have historical significance. This process can take up to 10 business days, hence delivery time of 21 days. As soon as the permit is issued, the item/items will be released to UPS and a tracking number provided . A telephone number must be provided as UPS will not accept shipments from Guatemala without one
