Made in Latvia by the Riga Porcelain Factory (Rīgas Porcelāna Rūpnīcā in Latvian, RPR) in the 1960s during Soviet times. Riga, Soviet Latvia.
It has a typical midcentury modern pattern quite trendy for Europe in those years. Gold accents include the trims and the lid knobs.
Fully marked with a factory stamp on the bottom, corresponding to 1950s-1960s. The pentagon with letters CCCP inside indicates the highest quality porcelain available at the time.
The set consists of 16 pieces. All sizes are approximate.
* tea pot with a lid 6.5” wide including the handle and the spout, and 7.5” tall;
* creamer 4.5” tall by 4.5” wide;
* sugar bowl with a lid 5.25” tall with a lid and 5.5” wide including the handles;
* 4 saucers 4.75” in diameter;
* 4 dessert plates or bowls 6” in diameter and 0.75” deep;
* 3 cups 2” tall by by 3.25” in diameter.
Excellent condition, no cracks, scratches or loss of gold.
Riga Porcelain Factory is a combined effort of the two oldest porcelain factories in Riga.
The oldest and largest of these dates back to 1841, and was founded by a Russian entrepreneur Sidor Kuznetsov.
The second factory was founded in 1886 by German entrepreneur Jacob Jessen.
For almost 80 years, these two factories worked side-by-side until 1963 when they were united to be the renamed Riga Porcelain Factory.
The Factory RPR does not exist anymore since the 1990s.
