Antique Dress Edwardian Victorian White Cotton and Yellow Ribbing Dress w. Machine & Handmade hotsell Lace, c. 1900, Size 2
Size 2 (in modern sizing) white cotton batiste with yellow.
Size 2 (in modern sizing) white cotton batiste with yellow piping dress sports a tour de force of lace at breast, cuffs, hem, collar and back hotsell. Three tiers of ruffles at hem. Waist is a petite 20". Bust is 30". It is certain the lady would have worn a corset and at least two layers over that with three layers below the waist. That brings her waist to less than 19". I can't even imagine. This dress requires undergarments. It is far too sheer to wear alone. Such is the nature of fine cotton batiste. The laces are brilliant. Full hook and eye closure at back and full inset waistband. A glorious silk sash is original to the dress. This must have been a lovely graduation piece. The edge of the lace is down in the photos and may be worn so, however, it may be starched to achieve what I believe to be its original "stand up" style. 15" neckline.
My 36 bust 24 waist mannequin approximates a height of 5 ' 4". My mannequin is too big for the dress, thus the open hooks for the back of the dress. Dress measures just under 54" long. Bust is a 30, but in true Edwardian style, the breast in ample to accommodate the additional modesty and volume creating lingerie for the breast. Excellent condition with the exception of light wear under the arms near the waist from friction that has released the piping from the fabric. No other issues.
