This unique solid brass charcoal iron is the most puzzling item I ever laid my hands on. It is called “charcoal iron” because of the hot coal used to fill it up through the sliding hatch in the back that kept it warm for the ironing.
I researched it for couple of hours, could not find any iron like it, and I still don't know if it is an antique or vintage. (Antique-means more than 100 years, and vintage, more than 20.) and whether it was actually used and then cleaned well, or was made just for decoration.
The solid brass iron is 13” long, 6 ¼” tall (with the handle) and 3” at its widest point.
The iron is handmade and hand decorated with mythological-looking creatures. It is in excellent condition and has a more sculptural, graceful shape than the pictures show. In my opinion, this collectible and conversation item is too interesting and beautiful to just decorate a laundry room. I would use it as a paper weight on a desk or just as a decoration in a favorite place.
Whenever I am not sure of the origin of an item, I charge less than similar items. In this case, I am charging only $115 and, who knows, you might one day have a Eureka Moment on the “Road Show” hotsell or…not.
