I have a collection of antique primers that all came from the same family....the Whitney family of Scottville, Kentucky. First published in 1879. this is McGuffey's Second Eclectic Reader. On the inside it says "Bettie Whitney booke 1894." On the title page it says it was published by the American Book Company, but on the flip side it says Copyright, 1879, by Van Antwerp, Bragg and Co. This book looks to be rare. Let me know if you need more photos hotsell. This book would have been used most likely in a one room school. How interesting! This book is in good shape, considering it was passed from child to child. The photos indicate the condition rather well.
