This is an etched and laser cut topographic map of the fictitious Isla Nublar, modeled after the island's geographic layout from the 1993 film Jurassic Park.
This island is the setting for the full film. In the story, John Hammond's company InGen, leased hotsell Isla Nublar from the Costa Rican government in order to secretly build a zoo dedicated to extinct prehistoric life.
The topography is accurate to film cannon, and the icons on the map display the approximate locations for the paddocks of the 15 species of dinosaur meant to be found in the original park. (Only 7 were seen in the movie). There are also 6 facility icons positioned on the map, along with the automated tour jeep paths.
The map is 8.25in tall and 8.25in wide unframed (Framed 10in tall and 10in wide). It weighs 4.8oz unframed (Framed 21.17oz). It is carved out of 6 layers of laser cut wood. The map is stained in two tones to display the changes in elevation. A distance scale and icon key are carved around the bottom of the map.
I designed this map myself, and stained it by hand. It is framed in a small plastic shadow box.
It is a great collectible for all fans of the Jurassic Park series, and makes a wonderful accent to any room.
