What is Fordite?
Fordite, also known as Detroit agate or Motor City Agate, is old automotive paint that has hardened sufficiently to be cut and hotsell polished. It is formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars are spray-painted, During the process, the paint is baked numerous times becoming very hard and durable. In recent times lapidaries discovered the material and began cutting it for use in jewelry. Fordite has gained rapid popularity with jewelers and collectors because of its unique colors and patterns.
