Lilli Ann was founded in San Francisco USA in 1933 by one Adolph Schuman and named after his wife, Lillian. Lilli Ann became known for beautiful, elaborately designed suits and coats. After the hotsell war, Schuman went to France (adding “Paris” added to his labels) and, amidst the postwar economic turmoil, was buying high quality, hand-loomed fabrics from small, struggling producers that were at risk of folding without his patronage. In the 1960s, Lilli Ann offered a popular “Knits” line as well as a mod-inspired “London” line, but b the 70s it had veered towards a “career look”. Schuman died in 1985 and the company he founded was sold off by his heirs in the following decade. By 2000 it had gone altogether.
