Needle Felted Mother and hotsell Baby Duck Dolls, Log and Flowers/ Heirloom Collectible Easter Ducks / Daisy and Melody, Room Decor
The sound of a loud thud on my front porch.
The sound of a loud thud on my front porch brought me to the door. There is only one critter in the Land of Felt who always arrives with a major ' thud,' and that's Lola the kangaroo, with her baby, Rosy. It takes one giant hop and she's at my front door- forget using the steps! When I opened the door I could see that they were very excited. Rosy was bobbing up and down in her pouch as best she could and Lola exclaimed, “Come! You have to see who we just found! Hurry, hurry! Come see!!” and with another huge 'thud' she was off my porch and heading down the path. I couldn't possibly keep up with them, but I followed as quickly as I could. Hmm~ they were headed towards the lake~ Hmm- I was trying to guess who might be at the lake-?
“Hurry! They're over here!” Lola called up to me. I followed the direction of Lola's voice and I could see, partially hidden behind the trees, two white shapes; one big and one, little. As the path curved around the grove of trees I was able to see clearly- There was Lola and Rosy, who'd hopped out of her pouch and was hopping around excitedly. There they were, Daisy and little Melody, mama and baby Ducks! Now I was excited too! These were the first ducks at the Land of Felt! Baby Rosy came hopping as fast as her little legs could hop,”Come meet our new friends. Melody's a baby just like me!
“Oh my goodness, what beautiful ducks you are!” I said. First Lola introduced me, and then Rosy wanted her turn, so she introduced me too, making sure she introduced Melody first. “Melody, what a beautiful name,” I said. “She hums,” Rosy piped in. Both Daisy and Lola laughed at that and Melody shyly hid her beak behind her wing- “Yes, it's true,” Daisy said. “She loves to hum! I didn't even know that ducks could hum before Melody came along, but I found out long before she even hatched. Every time I went to my nest to sit on the eggs, I could swear I heard a faint humming sound coming from one of the eggs. I told myself I had to be wrong. Ducks don't hum! Then, two weeks ago, the first two ducklings hatched but the third egg didn't even have a crack ~ but the humming continued. I wondered if I was going to have a strangely humming egg- or if I would ever have a third duckling. Three days later, my question was answered! My third duckling finally hatched. And she was humming! Oh my goodness! A musical duckling! She'll be famous some day! I knew exactly what her name was going to be! She's named Melody!” When she heard her name, she started to hum; very softly . Instantly, we were quiet- even Rosy, so we could listen to Melody. She has the softest, sweetest little voice! I was amazed- A humming duck? I know Daisy wants to show her baby to the world, but she's accepted my invitation to stay in The Land of Felt for as long as they like. When she heard that they were staying, Rosy gently grabbed Melody's wing and hopped up and down excitedly, while Melody, still clumsy on her feet, shifted excitedly from one foot to the other. So happy to have them, I couldn't help but be excited myself! Come and I'll tell you a bit more about the new ducks…
This is an original, one of a kind set that I've designed and needle felted from wool fiber. Daisy, the larger duck stands approximately 5 1/2” from the ground to the top of her head. Her baby is about an inch tall in her lying- down position. I've also needle felted a log which is about 3”long. At the end I've felted some flowers and attached them to the log. From the bottom of the log to the top of the tallest flower stem is approximately 4 1/2". The set includes three separate pieces, the large duck, the baby duck, and the log with flowers attached to it. Daisy cannot stand by herself but she stands very well with the end of the log placed behind her. The log doesn't stand by itself, but as you can see from the photos, it stands in place perfectly with Daisy leaning on it. Baby Melody balances just fine on her own and may be placed wherever you'd like her.
Though minimally poseable, Daisy is internally wired, which gives her more stability. In addition to the wool and wire used to create Daisy, glass beads are used for her eyes and a plaid ribbon ties in a bow around her neck. Her baby consists entirely of wool, including her eyes. The log is felted entirely from wool, as are the flowers felted to it. There are two flower stems that are wired and can be adjusted minimally, if very careful.
**** Please note that while a child will enjoy looking at Daisy and Melody, they are too fragile to be handled as a toy and in fact, they will do best if handled by an adult, only when necessary. Needle felted critters aren't intended to be a child's play toy; however if placed on a shelf out of a child's reach, they make an adorable addition to a child's room decor- or the decor of any room. They also make an excellent addition to anyone's collection ~ or they look wonderful in hotsell the spotlight alone! Meant to be looked at and loved, they're intended to bring warmth and good cheer to your home!
Daisy and Melody carry with them the joy experienced in their creation~ May you too, feel that joy!
