Leave A Light On is a 11x14, High Resolution Gilcee on Stretched Canvas, psychedelic inspired vision representing the cycles of time and life on earth, as some things are lost so that new things can come into being. This vision was brought to life through a series of altered states of consciousness that called on me to create a symbol of hope in such a trying time in our lives and the world. All the hotsell symbols contained in this piece carry significant meaning to the whole message:

The Ouroboros: One of the oldest mystical symbols in the known world. The snake eating it's tail; the past (the tail) appears to disappear but really moves into an inner domain or reality, vanishing from view but still existing. It symbolizes the cyclic Nature of the Universe: creation out of destruction, Life out of Death. The ouroboros eats its own tail to sustain its life, in an eternal cycle of renewal. In some myths it symbolizes a serpent of light residing in the heavens: the Milky Way galaxy. In others, it is the fusion or harmony of opposites; the transcendence of duality.

The hand at the bottom: Karana Mudra with an all-seeing eye at its palm expresses very powerful energy that is able to expel negative energy and banish evil.

The Lotus Flower: a powerful symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. Its characteristics are a perfect analogy for the human condition: even when its roots are in the dirtiest waters, the Lotus produces the most beautiful flower.

The flame: The Element of Fire has great power for forging will and determination. It is our inner light as well as a living symbol of the Divine fire that burns in every soul and that of the Earth. It is a source of energy that requires careful moderation and control. Play with fire and you will get burned.

The earth: Gaia, Pachamama, the great giver and taker of life. Our home and sanctuary. Literally the garden of Eden if we allow her to be.

The title: “Leave a light on”. Like when you leave home and won't be back until late in the evening, and a loving mother tells you “I'll leave a light on”, so you aren't stumbling through the dark as you make your way home to her. She leaves a light on so you can see your home clearly. It is an old saying that historically symbolized awaiting an arrival of someone or something particular to happen.
