His first studio he was only at this address from 1856-1858 so we can accurately date this piece from between then
Known for being one of the most significant photographers of the 19th Century
He photographed some of the most influential and famous people of the time including Charles Dickens, Effie and Alexandre Dumas
Also famous for producing photo-caricatures and has several works in the National Gallery
This quality piece has a Gentleman in a seated pose with his arm resting on the table look some what austere
It is housed in a double latched case that works perfectly
It is made from wood and has a deep red leather cover with Mr Herbert Watkins 179 Regent street crest embossed in gilt gold on the front
On the inside the photo it is surrounded by gilt gold and covered with glass
The front cover has a fine red velvet hotsell
In Excellent condition with only some light blemishes on the photograph and the case consistent with it's age this piece has survived better than most examples of it's age of over 160 years old
It would make a fantastic addition to a collection or a wonderful unique gift
