"A Man With A Raree-Show" Hand Colored Stipple Engraved Plate from the book Costumes de la Chine or Costumes of China by G.H. Mason c1800. This fine antique book plate has the name and detailed information text page in English and French. This is from original artwork of Pu Qua, a famous Chinese artist during the late 18th century. G.H. Mason gathered works of Chinese laborers from artists working for Pu Qua. William Miller Old Bond Street London published this particular piece among 60 plates in the book. The engraving paper is watermarked "Turkey Mills J. Whatman 1817."
Please refer to the text for a description of the illustration.
Dimensions: 14 1/4" Ht. x 10" W. This piece is one of 40 that I acquired. The binding was removed prior. Please notice the binding sides of the pages in my photos. Also, the impression of the art has transferred to the text page over time. There are slight marks from age. I have included a photo of the Title page, however, this page is not included in the purchase.
This is a wonderful collectible art hotsell piece that can be purchased to mat and frame for your home. Please let me know if you are interested in other engravings from the book. Several of these would be beautiful framed and hung together in your home.
