In the early 1920's, war had just ravaged the continent and supplies of any and all things were hard to find. Thus, this lovely milk jug or creamer exhibits a thin glaze overall, as seen in the photographs. The jug is decorated with pink flowers, green leaves, and a Briton woman in traditional costume. The handle is striped and of an interesting shape. The jug itself has extruded panels. It measures approximately 4 1/4 inches high, and is 4 1/2 inches at its widest point. The slightly squared base is 2 x 2 inches. It is signed on the base. There are rim chips along the lip, or perhaps just rubbed areas where the glaze was thin. Also a rubbed area on the tip on the handle, please examine the photographs carefully.

About Quimper:
Tin-glazed, hand-painted pottery has been made in Quimper, France, since the late seventeenth century. The earliest firm, founded in 1685 by Jean Baptiste Bousquet, was known as HB Quimper...the pottery is decorated with designs of Breton peasants and sea and flower motifs. Faience has been referred to as the "puff pastry of pottery" because it is very difficult to master.
