This is a Kiyomizu ware, Morisato Toraku's purple colored Mishima sake cup.

It is an elegant and beautiful sake cup with detailed Mishima decoration.
The Mishima pattern on the inside looks great with the sake poured into it.

The Mishima pattern on the surface, rhythmically stamped up and down, is called flowing Mishima.
The Mishima pattern is a pattern found in folk kilns on the Korean Peninsula.
It was introduced to Japan in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) with the rise of the tea ceremony and the well tea bowl.

This is a fine Kyo Mishima pattern that is typical of the Dohra kiln.

The matte finish gives it a wonderfully crusty look.

The delicate Mishima inlays that are unique to Kiyomizu ware of Kyoto ware are applied to this sake cup, and the sense of the maker shines through.
