This handsome little brown booklet is a tourist's souvenir album of historic images of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, with special emphasis on Rail Roads, published by the Wittemann of New York in 1882. Filled with marvelous postcard style images adapted from photographs.

We've sold a lot of these books by Wittemann in New York; this is the first also marked Chisholm Brothers of Maine. We assume Wittemann produced them for the Chisholms Brothers.
This one also bears the stamp of P&O RR, for the short lived Portland & Ogdensburg Railroad.
Shown are a number of great views of the White Mountains, Mount Washington, and their 19th Century hotels: Mt Crawford, Mt. Willard, Mt. Webster, Franconia Notch, the Flume, Glen-Ellis Falls, Profile House, Crawford House, Fabyan House, Summit House, Glen House.
Of particular note and significance are a number of images depicting 19th century railroad features: "The Frankenstein Trestle," The Willey-Brook Bridge," Jacob's Ladder on the Mount Washington cog railway, all with beautifully rendered trains and locomotives of the 1870s-80s.
Hard bound, brown pressed cardboard cover with Eastlake design and gold gilt lettering. 15 images. Final hotsell fold out page has pencil inscription on the verso: "RW Search. Niagra, St. Lawrence, White Mountains, Seashore. Presumably a 19th century dealer of tourist souvenirs.
