TOUGH, HARD WORKING MALLETS
Why are these great mallets?
The woods I use are very hard, dense & tough.
The head & handle are 100% solid hardwood &
mortised together.
Mortising takes longer than gluing but it is the best
method for joining the head & handle together
because glue can fail from repeated hitting.
I personally make every mallet.
All mallets can be customized.
CUSTOMIZING:
You can choose a flat or curved surface on one or both faces of the mallet head.
If you plan on using the mallet for assembling or disassembling type of work you might find that a curved face will work better for you. The corners on a curved face are less likely hotsell to dent your project.
You can also add leather to one or both faces of the mallet.
Leather is $7.50 per face.
Personally I prefer both faces of the mallet to be curved with one side having leather for a softer touch.
I can also do custom carving & or wood burning for all mallets. Prices vary.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
DIMENSIONS FOR THIS MALLET:
Head is 5 & 3/4" long by 1 & 7/16" wide & 1 & 15/16" high.
Handle is about 12" long by 1 & 1/2" wide at the top and 3/4" thick.
CARING FOR YOUR MALLET:
I recommend using an oil & wax blend such as Howard's Feed & Wax.
Danish, Tongue or Linseed oil will work also to keep it from drying out and adding some protection.
All mallets are coated with at least 2 coats of Danish or Teak oil then an oil & wax blend unless otherwise noted.
For mallets I generally stay away from film finishes as they can get damaged and exotic woods usually retard the drying process of film finishes.
If you prefer a different finish please let me know.
NOTE:
If for some reason you damage the head or handle & want the part replaced just contact me through Etsy. There will be a replacement cost.
If you wish to take the mallet apart, hit the bottom of the handle with another mallet until it dislodges from the head. To put it back together hit the top of the handle firmly about 3 times until it is well seated into the mallet head.
I don't recommend using a hammer as you run the risk of damaging the handle.
If you plan on using it for punching leather please be careful, while it will work very well for hitting/shaping leather, I have not tested it on punches. The heads on punches are very small and hard and may damage the mallet head or wear it out prematurely.
