hotsell Vintage hand painted Persian panel pendant with turquoise, carnelian and sterling silver. The plaque depicts 2 men on horseback, perhaps playing polo.
I have more of these Persian panel sets that will be listed soon!
Hand painted bone or mother of pearl panel bracelets were popular with travelers to Persia early in the 20th century. Usually they depicted scenes from tales like Leila and Majnoon, or gazelle hunting, polo, dancers, pastoral scenes..... Being bracelets, the paint was scraped off easily and the bracelets retired to the jewelry box. I've taken the intact panels and made then into pendants, strung them with complimentary beads and made earrings to go with. Not a historically accurate style of jewelry, but very pretty and a nice way to repurpose a beautiful but damaged piece of art.
