This is an amazing hand build porcelain bowl by nationally recognized ceramic artist Virginia Cartwright.
This is an amazing hand build porcelain bowl by nationally recognized ceramic artist Virginia Cartwright from the 1980s or 1990s I believe. It measures 11 1/2 inches across and 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 high and in great condition. I can't see any issues with it. It is a great piece for your American Studio Pottery Collection.

Virginia Cartwright is known in her early career for wheel-thrown pieces but after 4 years she began to hand and slab-build thin walled functional pieces. Surfaces are left unglazed or are finished with deeply carved and slip-trailed surface techniques. Cartwright has also worked with colored clay that she creates by sifting dry colored clay onto a moist slab, then carving the surface and stretching the clay before forming the final object.
In addition to ceramic works, Cartwright produces digital prints she calls Kaleidoscope Images. Plants and glass shards are used to create the content of the images.
Cartwright studied with Franz Wildenhain at Rochester Institute of Technology.
