To prove or display one's pride, confidence, or fortitude in the face of adversity. Life will always challenge you, sometimes bringing you to the lowest of lows, but overcoming it allows you to stand taller than before so you can enjoy the view.
Shotgun homes were built to Beat the Heat and do so In Style! These distinctive narrow homes have been a fixture on the New Orleans landscape since the 1870's. In an effort to battle the intense heat and humidity of the city shotgun homes were built with elongated windows and doors which allow a breeze to flow from the font door straight through the house out the backdoor.
I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
This is a giclee created from my original impasto oil painting. All of my original paintings are painted in an impasto style (heavy texture) done in oil using palette knives.
