Jianzhan(also known as Tenmoku pottery) is originating in the Song Dynasty, use as tea bowl(Chawan).
In China, people named it Jianzhan, in Japan, people named it Tenmoku pottery.
TreasureTeawares provide Jianzhan from Jianyang, Fujian,China, where is source area Jianwares since Song. Artist adopts local clay rich in iron as material to make glaze&body, fired in around 1150 degree Celsius.
The rich iron content helps to soft water, it is widely use to drinking tea and liquor.

Notice
the producing hotsell process of “Jianzhan” which is very special. When we produce a batch of teacups, we used the same martial of each cup with painted the same glaze, then put them into the enclosed clay jars, finally sent it into the calcining kiln to fire for three times. The color of the cups was random, we may call it as “ kaleidoscopic”, depended on the weather, humidity and so many different details from outside. We were not sure the color of each cup until we opened the jar at last. The only thing we can make sure is the shape of each cup. So every Jianzhan was unique and collectable. On the other side, if we sold the same color cups, we have had to paint the cup later period by machine, that means the cup are not made by hand naturally.

There is a video from Youtube which may help you know much better of the Jianzhan producing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLRVqqPRoN8
