This is a French lidded tureen or stock pot dating to 1920s. Heavily constructed and enameled in white, the front of the pot is decorated with a hand painted design of two flowers in gradient shades of pink. The design is enhanced by stems and leaves in shades of green, blue and teal, albeit with some slight fading and discoloration. The back side of the pot is similarly decorated with a single stem. A single stem design is repeated twice on the lid. The rim, lid and knob are trimmed in a contrasting deep red enamel. The handles are trimmed with red details.
The pot has minor missing enamel on the handles, upper rim and lid knob. There is also some pitting along the rim. Last, there are some dark shading spots which appear to be from uneven application during the original enameling process? (Check photos closely, most evident by the handle and on the back side). The interior of the pot has some minor pitting though without missing enamel and is otherwise clean and fully watertight.
Nonetheless, this piece is in very good vintage condition and is a wonderful example of an artisan's ability to transform a utilitarian kitchen pot to an art form - hotsell lending a lovely touch of French flair to your home ~
