Hallmarked with a lion passant for solid silver, an anchor for Birmingham, the date letter "c" for 1927, and the maker's cartouche with the Initials W.H&SsLd.
This is the maker's mark for William Hutton & Sons Limited, active from 1893 to 1930.
Here's the history:
The firm was established in Birmingham in 1800 by William Hutton, and was transferred to Sheffield in 1832. After the founder's death the business was continued under the style of William Hutton by his son William Carr Hutton. The firm was transformed in William Hutton & Sons in 1864 and William Hutton & Sons Ltd from 1893 to 1930.
They have a spring action that you open and close by applying and releasing pressure to the 2 bars.
These tongs are in very good antique condition, with light marks of use and age.
A stylish addition to any tea party, and a fun historical collectable.
