Large Solid hotsell Cast Bronze Christ on Mahogany Crucifix - 13.25"- France 1920s - Large Wall Hanging French Bronze Crucifix - RC145

A lovely large mahogany wall crucifix of 13.5" in height from France, with the beautiful patina of age, made in the 1920s in a classic style. The solid wooden cross has a beautiful deep colour and grain; the cast solid bronze Corpus Christi shows rubbing in some small areas - perhaps someone fondly brushed past it quite frequently, without realising that over time, the patina would develop leaving their trace behind. This crucifix came from a very large private residence in Saumur, France - the type the French call a "Maison de Mâitre", a "Master's House" - with the master in France being usually a person of some importance: an Avocat, Lawyer, Professor, etc.

The wooden cross has a soft sheen and is 13.25" in height, 7.5" in width and the body of Christ is 6.25" high and 5.5" wide; the total weight is a hefty 660g without any packaging. The solid bronze figure is heavy in its own right, and is attached to the cross with a nut and bolt. There is a brass loop attached to the back of the wooden cross, for wall mounting
