Framed Vintage Original Shabby Chic Rustic Landscape Seascape Oil Painting hotsell of a Maine Coast Long Narrow Beach Peninsula or Barrier Island
This little painting is a low-key naive art charmer with its vintage patina.
This little painting is a low-key naive art charmer with its vintage patina that gives it the fantastic look of a mid-century color photograph.
This painting is oil paint on a 10" by 8" canvas panel. The painting is in decent condition overall but it does have some noticeable flaws, mostly from wear and age: errant paint speckles and streaks, tiny bits of dried paint and paintbrush bristles caught up in the surface, dark grayish speckles and scratches of discoloration from friction, lower paint levels (in color and texture) that can be seen through the upper levels, a strong and noticeable brownish gray patina overall with further pockets of concentrated discoloration that are much more prominent on the sections of sky, a noticeably cloudy appearance in most lights (particularly to the darker colors but also the entire surface) from surface wear (paint cracking and friction), many many many whitish speckles of discoloration from friction, a chunkier than average canvas weave, tiny paint chips missing, two wider vertical scrape marks on the top of the sky section that removed swatches of tiny paint chips, and fine craquelure throughout the entire surface of the darker paint colors which is highlighted because of the much lighter lower paint color. The finish is matte.
The MDF frame is covered in a faux woodgrain wrap (with a chestnut color with orange undertones) with a metallic gold paint on the center lip and a glossy varnish. It's in decent condition overall but it reads strongly as "shabby chic" or "rustic" because of its many little small scratches and dents (some of which reveal the dark gray MDF below), extra chipping and wear at the outer corners, many areas where the varnish has worn thin or off which leaves the surface more cloudy-looking, prominent staples at the outer corners, dark grayish spots of discoloration on the gold paint that look like tarnishing, little popped air bubbles caught up in the gold paint section, errant tan speckles of paint along the outer edges, superficial cracks near some of the outer corners, and inner corners that don't meet perfectly flush (but the frame is still sturdy overall). The frame increases the overall dimensions to 11 1/8" by 9".
I tried to capture the painting in as many light conditions as possible so you can see how its appearance varies based on the lighting. Both the painting and hotsell the frame can appear noticeably cooler, bolder, and darker in lower light or brighter, warmer, softer, and more colorful in bright light. Note that a whitish sheen will be much more prominent over the painting (from the surface wear) in bright light, so be prepared to have flexibility with where you place it for maximum impact. Make sure you eye the photos closely and are okay with the overall condition (which is "rustic" or "shabby chic" for both the painting and the frame) before purchasing.
