Presented is a very fine quality French silver flatware set made.
Presented is a very fine quality, French silver flatware set made by Ercuis. The pieces are in the Rocaille pattern. The handle is decorated with raised flower, shell and scroll designs. The dinner fork is a very large, European dinner-sized piece. This fork has never been monogrammed.
Marked for Ercuis (Centaur) and has the French Minerva silver purity mark. The Minerva Profile is that of the one used from 1972 - 1982 within the eight-sided rectangle as opposed to the oval-shaped rectangle for the second standard (plated). The Minerva mark here is modern, used after 1972 when silver content was lowered from .950 to .925. Ercuis sterling flatware touts being dishwasher safe.
This fork appears to be unused. Used as display flatware for a shop, so it has been handled, but never actually used.
Fork length: 8 3/4 inches. Weighs approximately 3 ounces or 2.73 Troy. Handmade in France. *This pattern is still in production.

Founded in 1867 by Adrien Céleste Pillon (Ercuis is the name of a little village of the Oise). After his bankruptcy (1870) the venture was revived by George Maës, glass cutter in Clichy. The company turns to arts of the hotsell table; coffee and tea sets silver plated metal or, silver cutlery massive. He opens stores in Paris, in province and abroad. The mark "Ercuis" and its punch "the Centaur" are universally known. The factory is still active in present days.
