This is a classic-patterned knife usually known as a "boot knife." In this modern era, however , I think of it more as a "purse knife," or "jacket pocket knife," or even "glove compartment knife." Point is, it's a handy pattern wherever you carry it. Or you can just display it handsomely on its stand and use it to open your mail.
The knife is about 8 inches long, with a 4-inch blade. The blade pattern is called "spear point" and this one is single edge. The unsharpened edge is called a "false edge." So, overall, we have a single-edge, spear-point, boot knife.
I made the custom harness leather sheath to support any of the various ways you might choose to carry this knife. But I did not include a belt loop - to keep the design slim. I wet-formed the sheath to the knife for a tight fit.. I stamped a simple decorative border into the wet leather. Finally, I dyed it tan.
I made the handle from thin scales I cut from a piece of Honduran Rosewood I've been saving. I contoured the scales to mate with the steel tang and pinned them in place with German Silver pins (which are neither German, nor silver - also called Nickel-Silver). I also used industrial-grade epoxy, dyed black.
The blade shape has matching thumb/finger notches on either side to keep your hand from sliding down onto the cutting edge.
I've included the L-shaped Cherry knife stand shown in the photos. You can display the knife either with, or without, the sheath.
I cut one of my favorite file work patterns all along the blade tang, top and bottom. I do this work on the hardened steel with diamond bits and cut-off disks in my Dremel tools. I polish everything smooth on my power buffing wheels.
I electro-etched my initial at the base of the blade - my mark. I tied a 2-color paracord lanyard for the knife, to make it easier to retrieve in a pinch.
One caution about displaying your knife - especially without the sheath: Be aware that the knife is a dangerous object and can be knocked off the stand and may fall and cause some damage. If you display your knife on an open shelf, or a mantle, please display it with the sheath on. You can display the bare blade on the stand behind glass.
Shipping is included in the price, except in extreme cases (see my Shipping Policy).
