When the Victorians wanted to remove all the odors that accumulated from cooking, open fires and life in general, they turned to a small combustible tablet called a pastilles. They would light it like a we would like incense. Being Victorians, one had to have something wonderful to display it in. The factories at Staffordshire were delighted to provide. They had only to look around any village for inspiration. and the result is a series of
Wonderful houses with details galore to capture the period.
There is one small chip on the interior of one turret which I have pictured. I could but would not like to see it repaired
as it is part of it's charm To me. The rest of it is so Original and crisp. The bocage, the applied squally clay, is Perfect which is so rare! Absolutely one of the best Staffordshire pieces. Painting is good too.
Often kids helped their moms paint these
hotsell pieces and they could be messy. It is six inches tall with a base of 5.25 by 3.5 inches.
A rare little beauty!
