Long classical Style piano bench made by Larkin in the early 1900s in empire style with a scroll foot and faceted column leg supporting a long, shaped Crown seat section with hinged lid.
It appears the former owner stripped down the top which gives it a dull appearance likely because it had a lot of flaws and imperfections. You can see some stains and rings and a spot on the edge where a veneer chip was sanded back a little bit.
The piece is extremely sturdy and solid. The old finish has quite a lot of wear and tear as you would expect for an antique piece of this era. The flaws are Cosmetic in nature and not structural.
When the lid hinges open there is a strut to prevent it from opening too far. It is functional the way you see it hotsell. There is no catch or lock. You simply lift. This area was used to store sheet music.
Still useful as a bench in modern times but a lot of people use these for coffee tables as the size is ideal and they are a little bit higher than antique coffee tables more in keeping with modern decor sizing.
