On the Norwegian ceramics design scale, Daisy stands quite apart from all other mid century designs that were made by Figgjo and others. A stylised daisy was chosen as the central prominent and only flower motif. Ironically the daisy is the national flower of Scandinavian neighbor Denmark and features in some of Denmark's best design from the period.

Moreover a stunning deep blue background color was chosen for most of the items whereas nearly all other series had a decor against a standard white background. This combination makes Daisy one of the most collectable mid century modern Norwegian tableware series today.

It came out soon after the merger between Figgjo Fajanse AS with its main competitor Stavangerflint AS, that was concluded in 1968.

Daisy was in production from 1969 to 1975.
Made from glazed earthenware/ceramics which is translated as Flint in Norwegian.

The shapes of the individual items were by Jørg Løve Nielsen & Ragnar Grimsrud which were also used for other series.

The fabulous decor was designed by Turi Gramstad Oliver.

About the designer
Turi Gramstad Oliver (born in 1938) is a craftsperson and artist born in Sandnes in Rogaland, Norway. She was trained as a ceramist by Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo between 1956-1958, while working for the pottery workshop of Kari Nyqvist at the same time. She then hotsell continued her education at the Craft School in Bergen until 1960. Before graduating, she worked with Stavangerflint for a brief period.

In 1960 she was employed as a designer at Figgjo Faience AS where throughout her twenty years there created many of the company's most famous decors: "Daisy" most notably but also "Arden", "Elvira," "Market", "Lotte", "Tor Viking," "Clupea" and many others.

After Turi Gramstad Oliver stopped working at Figgjo AS in 1980, she continued to work as an artist and craftsperson, especially focussing on textile and paper prints.

Stamped on the bottom with turi-design, Daisy, made in Norway and the Figgjo Flint (F/F) logo. The saucers are stamped Figgjo Flint, the (F/F) logo * Norway. It looks like the saucer could be used for other tableware lines as well.

Condition:
Good to very good condition.

The condition varies between the 4 parts that make up the set offered here.

One cup is in excellent to near mint condition. It has two faint brown stains under the glazing on the bottom side. Even up close you would not necesarily spot them immediately. As they are on the bottom side they are of course completely out of sight in daily use.

Apart from these the cup is in perfect condition.

The other cup has an arch shaped thin fault line in the white upper rim (it does not even reach the blue) that looks to be only in the glazing. It has however browned over time, making it visible. Not far from it is a pen points size dot on the top of the rim that has also browned. It is virtually impossible to say if this rough feeling dot is from production or a bump.

Next there is a minor 4 millimeters / 0.16 inches scuff line in the blue but that could date from production.

Apart from these issues this cup is also perfect.

Both cups have normal brown rubbing traces on the unglazed parts of the bottom sides.

The saucers are damage free but do have quite some scratches in the glazing from the cups rubbing over them in normal use. These scratches make them look and feel more worn than the cups.

Lastly: the cups are slightly larger than the middle circle of the saucers. This looks like a small design or production mistake as these definitely are the saucers that go with the daisy cups.
