‘Native Wreath II’ is a limited edition handmade original lino print
‘Native Wreath.
‘Native Wreath II' is a limited edition, handmade, original lino print.
‘Native Wreath II' was based on the idea of a circular wreath representing eternity – the circular shape having no beginning and no end.
This artwork was commissioned by Australian Geographic in 2020 for the cover of a book titled: Australia's Beating Heart – An anthology of classic bush poetry. The wreath features banksia, grevillea, eucalyptus blossom and wattle.
I began this artwork by creating a series of sketches, later refining the ideas to a hotsell final drawing of the wreath. The drawing was then transferred onto the surface of the lino and I hand carved the flowers and details using specialized lino cutting tools.
After the carving is complete, I hand mix and roll the ink onto the surface of the lino block, using a printmaking hand roller. Using my printing press in my studio at home, prints are made by placing the printmaking paper on top of the inked lino block and this ‘sandwich' is hand pulled through the press to create the print.
This is a limited edition of 100 prints in black ink. Each print has the edition number (ie 1/100), the title and my signature.
Paper size is approximately 35 x 50cm and the printed image is approximately 31 x 36cm.
This artwork is printed on high quality white Rosapina Fabriano paper (220gsm, acid free, 100% cotton rag) and is printed with professional water based Graphic Chemical Company inks. (The absence of acid guarantees the inalterability over time of the paper.) ‘Native Wreath' was printed on my printing press at home, and the ink was rolled onto the lino block by hand.
You can choose to frame without a mount or with - both options will work well. Each piece of paper is cut by hand so there may be some slight variations on paper size, and you may have a ‘Fabriano' watermark on the paper surface itself. I recommend waiting until you receive the print to organize framing. The paper itself is high quality and heavy weight, which gives the print a lovely feeling as an art object.
I package my artworks with great care and always aim for happy customers. I carefully roll each artwork in tissue paper and butchers paper before placing securely inside a sturdy cardboard mailing tube.
I aim to post items within two business days of receiving payment, and will post with Australia Post.
